About the Style
Red Wing boots have always been designed primarily for rugged use on farms, as well as for the industries of the region, and have been solidly made accordingly. One style, however, stands out for its versatility in all applications. The Moc Toe Boots have achieved iconic status with their namesake Moccasin construction, in which the U-shaped leather is stitched to a leather leaf on top. The design is the oldest and most popular, and represents Red Wing Shoes like no other shoe. An advantage of the design is that the shoe also adjusts well in width, making it extremely comfortable. At Red Wing, they combined the Moc Toe with the lightweight Crepe sole, which prevents dirt from settling into the grippy but flat tread. This combination became a bestseller and is more versatile than any other model.
Last No. 23
Last No. 23 was developed in the 1950s. It offers additional space in the forefoot and instep area and thus adapts to a wide range of foot shapes. Most Moc Toe Boots are based on this proven last.
Sizes & Fit
If you do not have the opportunity to have your individual size measured at a Red Wing store, we recommend ordering the shoes in the appropriate size. The shoes come with a flat leather, or Texon® insole that covers an individually moldable cork midsole. If you prefer an additional insole, we recommend to choose a half size (US size) more.
Leather Quality
Red Wing's oil tanned leathers ( Oil tanned ) are extremely durable qualities and they have been used to make countless Red Wing Boots for over 100 years. The Oil Tanned leathers belong to the most robust qualities at all and are therefore also widely used in the work boot sector. The surfaces of these thick leathers have a very natural look because they are not treated with finishing products.

The SB Foot Tannery
S.B. The Foot Tanning Company has been a U.S. quality manufacturer of high quality leather for footwear and leather accessories since 1872. The leather is used by numerous shoe companies. However, the direct connection to the Red Wing Shoe Company is significant because the tannery is located in the same town. The S.B. Foot Tanning Company was first established on the banks of Trout Brook near Red Wing, Minnesota. Founded in 1872 by Silas B. Foot and George Sterling, the S.B. The Foot Tanning Company has been part of the Red Wing, Minnesota community for generations. In 1908, the company moved its operations to its current location on Bench Street.
In 1905, the tannery began supplying leather to a local "shoe worker" named Charles Beckman. Charles had started the Red Wing Shoe Company to manufacture shoes and boots. Within a few years, the combination of high quality leather and the craftsmanship of Red Wing Shoes would create a partnership that survives unbroken to this day.
